What is Linguaskill Business
Linguaskill is a state-of-the-art language test developed by Cambridge Assessment English to assess English language proficiency. It is an adaptive computer-based test, which means that the difficulty level of the questions adjusts to the candidate’s skills in real time.
In previous years, the main business version of the Cambridge Assessment English exams was the Business English Certificate (BEC) exam. However, the BEC exam has been replaced by Linguaskill Business. The BEC exams were withdrawn from the Cambridge English exam portfolio in 2023.
The Linguaskill exam is available online, allowing it to be taken anytime, anywhere, which is a big advantage over traditional paper-based BEC exams. Results from the reading and listening sections are available immediately, and full results for all sections are available within a few days.
Linguaskill Business is a state-of-the-art, adaptive computer-based test that offers flexibility and fast results. Like the BEC, Linguaskill assesses all four language skills: reading, listening, writing and speaking. The test is adapted to the candidate’s skill level over the course of the test, allowing an accurate assessment of the candidate’s language abilities. Linguaskill Business is a modern and convenient alternative to the BEC that meets the needs of today’s job and education market, offering quick and accurate assessments of language skills.
What the Linguaskill Business test looks like
The structure of the Linguaskill Business test consists of four main parts of the exam, which are presented below:
- Reading and listening – a combined section that assesses reading comprehension and oral expression skills. The module is adaptive, meaning that the questions adapt to the level of answers given by the candidate. It lasts between 60 and 85 minutes.
- Writing – a module that assesses the ability to write in English. Candidates have 45 minutes to write two texts: a shorter one (e-mail or memo) and a longer one (report or essay).
- Speaking – this section lasts about 15 minutes and consists of five tasks that include an introduction, reading aloud, answering questions, short answers and a longer statement on a given topic.
Results from the Reading and Listening sections are available immediately after the test is completed, and full results for all sections are available within a few days. The results are presented in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), allowing the candidate’s level of language skills to be accurately determined.
