In short, both computer-based and paper-based versions of the Cambridge English exams assess the same language skills, based on identical types of tasks. Both formats are taken in person at the Examination Centre. The main differences relate to the medium of the exam (paper and pen/pencil or computer with keyboard and mouse) and the waiting period for online results – from 4 to 6 weeks for the paper version and from 5 to 10 days for the Digital version.

Which version of the Cambridge English exam should I choose?

The decision between the paper and computer-based form of the Cambridge English exam depends on the candidate’s preferences.

Those who frequently write by hand and are accustomed to the traditional form of exams may feel more comfortable choosing the paper version (PB).

On the other hand those who regularly use a keyboard or are concerned about their handwriting may prefer the computer-based version.

An important aspect in choosing exam version is also the waiting period for the results: for the paper version, this time is longer.
