Both versions of the IELTS test assess exactly the same language skills and consist of
the same types of tasks. Additionally, both versions take place on-site at our Examination Center.
They differ in the medium of the exam (paper and pen/pencil or computer and keyboard)
and the waiting time for results and the certificate – 13 days for the paper-based version and 1-5 days for the computer-based version.

Which version of the IELTS test should I choose?

The decision between the paper and computer-based form of the IELTS test depends on the candidate’s preferences.

Candidates who often write by hand and are familiar with conventional exam formats might find the paper-based version (PB) more comfortable to choose; those who regularly use a keyboard may prefer the computer-based version.
Another significant factor in choosing the exam version is the waiting period for results, which is longer for the paper version.
